A powerful display by Caltra Cuan’s Ladies in Mountbellew on Sunday afternoon sees them through to the All - Ireland Junior Ladies Final. This was a mammoth encounter in which Caltra had to pull out all the stops to beat Moyle Rovers. In a tough, hard fought encounter the Caltra Ladies had to be at their best to win the match.
Moyle Rovers who were physically stronger and at times strayed over the edge with some of their tackling, opened the scoring in the early stages but Caltra soon settled with early points by Orlaith Hannon and Aine Mannion saw Caltra into the lead.
A great goal from Breda Hanlon after an excellent work by Orlaith Hannon put Caltra clear. But Moyle Rovers refused to give up and they closed the gap to 4 points, 1-7 0-6 at half time.
In the second half all guns blazed for Moyle Rovers for the first ten minutes as they reduced the deficit by scoring 4 points in a row to equalise the game. The game at this stage was in the balance and could have gone either way, but a brave point from Orlaith Hannon who was outstanding throughout the match gave the incentive back to Caltra.
Moyle Rovers pressed hard to get back into the match but with outstanding defence from the Caltra back line and tremendous work for our goalie Lucy Greene kept them at bay. The fatal blow came for Moyle Rovers when the goal which started with Aoife Ni Cheallaigh giving a super pass to Niamh Kilkenny, running the length of the field delivering a choice pass to Emma Naughton, who crashed the ball to the back of the net. At this stage Caltra were well on their way to the All-Ireland and closed the match with a score Caltra 2-10 Moyle Rovers 0-11.
